Chilblains are a circulatory problem, associated with cold weather. They itch and burn and become even itchier when warm. The tiny blood vessels under the skin narrow (constrict) when the skin becomes cold. The blood supply to areas of skin may then become very slow. As the skin re-warms there is some leakage of fluid from the blood vessels into the tissues. In some way this causes areas of inflammation and swelling leading to chilblains.

What to do: Prevention is best: Ensure your feet are kept warm, don’t walk barefoot on cold surfaces or wear shoes and socks that too tight-fitting. HJ Socks have a range of socks that can help you prevent chilblains, wool rich for good insulation and with a cushioned sole. For example, the HJ 212 Cotton Rich Cushioned Boot Sock.

For stockists, check out http://www.hjhall.co.uk/stockists.asp. You can put your foot in no better sock.
